Relocation of Coleg Menai’s Bangor Campus to TŶ Menai, Parc Menai
Cadnant Planning Ltd has been commissioned by Grŵp Llandrillo-Menai to undertake a pre-application consultation (PAC) in respect of proposed development aton Tŷ Menai, Ffordd Penlan, Parc Menai, Bangor, Gwynedd, LL57 4HJ.
We give notice that Grŵp Llandrillo-Menai is intending to apply for full planning permission for change of use of building from Use Class B1 (office) to Use Class D1 (non-residential institution), together with formation of access road, coach parking, pedestrian link paths and associated landscaping.
Prior to formal submission to the Local Planning Authority and in accordance with the requirements set out in Part 1A of the Town & Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (Wales) (Amendment) Order 2016, the proposal will be subject to pre-application consultation.
About the application
This draft planning application relates to Grŵp Llandrillo-Menai (GLlM) aspiration to create a lifelong learning zone and centre of excellence for the creative industries on Parc Menai to meet the future needs of learners and employers in north west Wales.
The vision involves the relocation of the Coleg Menai Bangor Campus from the existing Ffriddoedd Road and Friars site which has become outdated and in need of drastic renovation and upgrading works.
The project would bring together all of the existing Bangor-based Coleg Menai departments and administrative functions. It would also consolidate the Grŵp’s creative industries provision, to provide a Centre of Excellence in Creative and Digital Media with courses ranging from art and music technology, to games design and TV production all available on the same site.
A previous application which comprised both Tŷ Menai and adjoining Llwyn Brain application was withdrawn following the grant of a Certificate of Lawful Use for the proposed use of Llwyn Brain for business use associated with GLlM’s ‘Busnes@LlandrilloMenai’ function and GLlM’s Corporate Services Department. This confirmed that the proposed use of Llwyn Brain as part of the relocation of Coleg Menai Bangor Campus to Parc Menai didn’t require planning permission. Therefore although Llwyn Brain forms part of the overall relocation project, it does not form part of this planning application.
Due to the extent of changes to the original planning application, it was decided to withdraw that application and re-submit a revised application to accurately reflect the revised proposal.
